Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B0418 Magnetic Mini Exercise Bike Review

Inactivity is the main culprit for most health issues. Do you have a job that keeps you behind a desk or sitting most of the day? Are you sedentary once you get home? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it might be time to add some activity to your life.

The Sunny Health Magnetic Mini Bike is one of the most positively reviewed products of its kind. But will if fit your lifestyle? I wrote this review to get you acquainted with the product and answer that question.

In this review, I’ll cover some features, benefits, and things to consider before buying. Let’s jump into it and see if this mini bike is the right choice for you!

Things to Consider Before Buying a Mini Exercise Bike

Mini Exercise Bikes like the Sunny Health SF-B0418 are designed with efficiency in mind. They take up minimal space and can be easily moved around, but they still offer a nice workout. Whether this product is under your desk at work or in front of your recliner at home, the SF-B0418 can help you break a sweat.

You might be used to seeing full framed bikes for cycling workouts, but this mini bike can offer similar results in a more compact way. If you’re an athlete, this pedal system may not offer enough of a challenge. If you’re trying to keep moving while at work, rehab an injury, or work on circulation, you might be the best candidate.

Here are some things to consider before purchasing:

Where will you mostly likely be using it? The magnetic mini bike is just that—mini. So there are a lot of options for places to pedal. If you plan to use the bike under a work desk, be sure to consider your desk height. If your desk doesn’t have enough clearance (or you legs are too long), your knees will be hitting the belly of the desk.

Do you mind assembling and maintaining the product? Although the mini bike doesn’t require complete assembly, it does require some. The product comes with a wrench to assemble, and I’d also recommend tightening the pedal bolts regularly (beware of stripping the screws).

Sunny Health SF-B0418 Review

The Sunny Health SF-B0418 is a portable, miniature stationary bike that fits in perfectly with busy lifestyles. Its magnetic pedaling systems keeps your ride smooth and silent, making it a great fit for an office atmosphere. You’ll be able to burn calories and fight inactivity while multitasking at work or home.

Next to its competitor, the DeskCycle (which I’ll review later in this article), the SF-B0418 is a more economical choice. I’ll discuss the feature differences later, but for the stark price difference, this Sunny Health product is an excellent choice.

The tension controller has 8 levels, and the LCD display records speed, distance, and calories burned. What else makes this product stand out? Since there is no bike frame or seat, the mini pedaler can be put on a table top and used for upper body workouts.

Who’s it for?

This bike is a hardy one. If you have an office job and a hectic schedule, it’s ideal for you. It’s also a great choice if you’re just beginning a workout routine and need some low-impact cardio.

Because the pedals can be used for your upper body as well, the mini bike is helpful in supplementing if you have lower body injuries. It’s important to fit cardio into your routine, so the mini bike leaves no room for excuses.

I wouldn’t recommend this bike for someone wanting to push their conditioning to the max or anyone seeking heavy cycle training—a standard spin bike might be your best choice. Check out our guide to the best spin bikes to see which one is right for you!

There is a weight limit of 220 lbs, but this seems irrelevant to me. Most of your body weight will be seated, so this is just a guideline for how much pressure the pedals could withstand. This mini bike is not meant be be pedaled while standing. That being said, this product is not limiting based on your weight.

Pros of the Sunny Health SF-B0418

  • Portable and storable
  • Easy to assemble
  • Doubles as an upper-body pedaling machine
  • Quiet for office use

Cons of the Sunny Health SF-B0418

  • May require maintenance (oiling pedals, tightening bolts, etc.)
  • Tension may not be high enough for conditioned people

Features & Benefits

Stays put

The quality of the mini bike is substantial, weighing in at just over 20 pounds. The weight and the rubber feet make it compatible with most surfaces—even carpet. The SF-B0418 is versatile, so you can use it an virtually any setting.

Easy to store

Because of its compact design, this bike can easily be stored out of sight. A handle is built into the frame, so transporting the product is simple, too. Bulk is such a negative factor when you’re considering adding a piece of equipment to your home or office gym. The Sunny Health SF-B0418 solves this problem by offering a great workout using minimal space.

Magnetic flywheel vs Friction Tension

The magnetic flywheel not only creates a sleek design, but it’s also virtually silent. Since one of the main draws of this product is office usage, this quiet pedal system is ideal. A lot of alternative products either use motorized pedals or torque-based, friction tension.

So what are the benefits of a magnetic wheel over friction tension? Because friction style wheels use pads to add resistance, they wear out a lot faster than magnetic wheels. Torqued friction pads also add some ambiguity to your levels. Turning the knob and finding a certain resistance is relative to the user.

Foot straps

Rubber foot straps are adjustable and accommodate any foot size. They also keep your foot firmly on the pedal and allow you to have have a pulling dynamic in the pedaling as well. Learn more about this push/pull continuum and how it helps balance muscle groups!

Ergonomic Pedals

The pedals are designed with duality in mind! Because the SF-B0418 can be pedaled with arms or legs, Sunny Health created a comfortable, grooved pedal for a seamless transition between upper and lower body workouts.

Tracking Progress

The digital LCD screen on the front of the bike keeps track of your progress. It turns on once you start pedaling and tracks time, distance, speed, and calories. Having the monitor will be useful in tracking how many extra calories you burn while sitting.

Discreet usage

Most full-frame bikes are obtrusive and large. You probably couldn’t drag a full size spin bike into your office without raising some eyebrows. This pedal-only design keeps your workout discreet.

Other Good Choices

Remember, there are other things on the market, so be sure to do your research before you commit! Here are some other options you might like to consider.

DeskCycle — This desk exerciser is almost double the price, but the benefits are pretty stelar. It has the lowest pedal height available (only 10 inches tall), so it can accommodate even the shortest desks.

Unlike the Sunny Health SF-B0418, the DeskCycle has bidirectional pedaling. This features allows you to easier achieve that push/pull balance like I mentioned above. The DeskCycle also inputs your personalized information so it can more accurately guess calories burned via the calorie collector feature.

Medical Pedal Exerciser — This exerciser’s sturdy chrome design is well-suited for therapy and circulation techniques. The medical pedal exerciser has a knob for increased resistance rather than a flywheel. Since the resistance doesn’t reach a challenging level, this exerciser is considered ideal for the sedentary or elderly patients.

The wide frame makes it more stable than most models. Because it doesn’t offer any tech features, the operation is straightforward and no batteries are required for use.

Confidence Fitness Motorized Electric Mini Bike — This mini bike is equipped with motorized pedal action and 12 different speeds. The motorized pedal assist is designed to give consistency to your pace and add a little more ease to pedaling.

The Confidence has a detachable remote for convenience, and there are also built-in programs to take you through several patterns of resistance. The downside with this product is its instability. It’s a little top-heavy, so take special care while pedaling.

There You Have It

And so that’s the 411 on the Sunny Health SF-B0418. It’s a mini bike with excellent features that allow you to use it anywhere. Add some cardio to your day or work on some rehabilitation at work or at home. Its portable and quiet design will make your workout relatively unnoticeable—except for the sweat on your brow!
